Cranberry Ben Lear is one of the earliest large-fruited cranberry varieties developed in the USA. It is distinguished by very firm berries, high market quality, and excellent shelf life.
Ripening period: early — beginning of September.
Berry: oval-round, dense, deep red. When fully ripe, it turns dark ruby. It does not crack and is well suited for transportation.
Taste: pronounced sweet-and-sour flavor with a rich cranberry aroma.
Berry weight: average 10–12 g, up to 2 cm in length and 1.6–1.8 cm in diameter.
Yield: stable and high — up to 2 kg/m². Berries store well and are suitable for freezing, processing, and fresh consumption.
Bush habit: creeping, up to 35–40 cm tall, with shoots that densely cover the ground and root easily. Leaves are small, glossy, dark green, turning dark brown in autumn.
Flowering: end of May to early June, with pink flowers.
Frost resistance: high — down to -35°C. Suitable for cultivation in most regions of Ukraine.
Resistance to diseases and pests: this variety has strong immunity.
Growing conditions: prefers sunny or partially shaded locations with moist, acidic soil (pH 3.2–4.5). Requires regular watering and mulching.
